Yes, I can count and I noticed that it has been 20 days since my last post. I think it's been fairly well explained that I'm not great at being up to date on my blogging. Regardless I wanted to finish the story that I left as a cliff hanger. Most of you probably thought they stayed forever right? Wrong. Unfortunately, I couldn't convince them to move out here and they went home. But not before we had a fun Friday.
Friday was a fantastic day because we visited the Cabela's sportsman warehouse out by the Traverse Mountain outlets. It was beautiful; we spent about two hours just wandering around and absorbing it. It is HUGE and that's not an exaggeration. In the entryway, there's a big exhibit with animals that have gone through the process of taxidermy*. Yeah and around that exhibit there is a pond with all kinds of fish that you can feed for $.25. Money well spent. Also, an aquarium. Overall that was super successful
[* did you know there's no verb form of the noun taxidermy? I tried taxidermied and that didn't work, then taxidermized and still no luck. According to Webster's dictionary there is no legitimate verb; people just make it up.]
After Cabela's we dropped my mom off at our apartment and the rest of us went to the BYU softball game. Before you go thinking we're monsters for excluding my mom, I need to explain that she respectfully bowed out because of her allergy. She's allergic to the sun; true story. I know right? A Mexican who's allergic to the sun?!?!!! Weirder things have happened in this world. I mean, if the noise that Justin Bieber produces can be called music then anything is possible.
As you can clearly see, the sun was directly in our eyes.
We won't talk about how they did... not well, we'll leave it at that. Anyway then we had dinner at a hamburger place called "5 Guys" and that was delicious. My mom loves the sort of salmon colored rock that's around this area, all she kept saying the whole trip was "I'm taking a pink rock with me, Papi (my dad) promise me you'll get me a pink rock!" Well guess what was sitting just outside of the restaurant? As luck would have it, a bunch of pink rocks! Of course my mother couldn't complete the task herself and it fell upon me to "casually" pick up a red rock as I tied my shoes. I was wearing Tom's so I tied my imaginary shoe laces. But alas my mom got her wish.
That night was a rough night to try to sleep through; I knew that in 12 short hours they'd be gone.
Goodbye.
Well that was rough. I happen to have over-productive tear ducts and they certainly didn't betray me on this day. After saying our farewells and parting ways, after I practically ran to my apartment so my neighbors wouldn't see my shame, I curled up on the couch with my tissue box and watched Sandra Bullock's "While you Were Sleeping". Ky came home from drill team practice to me and my tissue box crying as Sandra is trying to figure out who she really loves. Overall Saturday was one of my least favorite days EVER.
I am so grateful that they came and visited us. My mom took special pride in my home; all of those years of teaching me how to clean and decorate finally paid off. I wish they lived closer and we got to be together more often, but I look forward to July when I can see my mom and Alex again.
