Day 1: They started driving on Saturday, stopped and spent the night in Jerome, ID and drove the remaining 4 hours on Sunday morning. In case any of you were thinking of vacationing in the tropical paradise of Jerome; Alex and my mom suggest you never stay at the Day's Inn Hotel. Anyway, they were scheduled to arrive at approximately 2pm so Ky and I did what we do best on Sunday... slept. Ky passed out as soon as we ate after church but my excitement was too much to contain and I didn't get to bed until about 1pm, and I woke up to determined knocking at my door. IT WAS MY FAMILY!!! Never before have I been so excited to look through my front door's peephole, to behold my parents and womb mate. Well after hugging everyone for 5 minutes each we unpacked my dad's brand new, shiny red Ford F150 truck. Which he named Mariana by the way. It's beautiful.
My parents and Ky's parents packed us our remaining wedding presents and lots and lots of food. LOTS of food, I'm not exaggerating. My mom brought me the best black refried beans known to mankind. I've been living off of the cheap $.88 canned beans from our local grocery store and my life just hasn't been the same. Sue (Ky's mom) sent enough chocolate chips to last our marriage, and enough peanut butter to sustain a family of 20. Man does she know her son's needs well. The crowning gift that was brought by both was NUTELLA!!!!!! Do you know how long I've had to go without the sweet, comforting taste of nutella?!?!! Too long. But never again will I be in need of nutella... or at least for the rest of this year.
My parents, Alex and I went on a walk to the temple while Ky got his home teaching done. Every Sunday here, the missionaries come out in droves to take pictures at the MTC and enjoy their yard time. Since Alex is reporting on June 26th to serve in the New York, New York South Spanish-speaking mission; it was very exciting for all of us to see missionaries and imagine that in 2 months she'll be one of them. Maybe I'll even "accidentally" get to see her one Sunday!
Sunday night dinner was made by the best cook around these parts- my mom. She made a traditional Mexican meal called posole. My brother-in-law Devin had been looking forward to this for weeks and the moment finally came, he got his bowl of posole.
That night as we were all going to bed, I was so grateful that they had finally arrived. I knew 6 days would go by much too quickly but I was excited for what the week would bring- lots of fun adventures with my favorite people.
